YAMS & JAMS: Young Artist Masters Series / Junior Artist Master Series

YAMS and JAMS provide an opportunity for intermediate and advanced students to study closely with a college-level instructor in preparation for competitions or auditions.

  • YAMS will be held November 1-3, 2019 and January 31-February 2, 2020. This year’s YAMS instructor is Jeffrey Gilliam from Western Washington University.

Student Recital

The Student Recital provides an opportunity for students of all ages and levels to perform in a chapter-wide recital.

  • The Student Recital will be held November 16, 2019 at the Kent First Baptist Church.
    • 2:00-2:45 pm Beginners
    • 3:00-3:45 pm Advanced
  • Deadline: November 9, 2019
  • Fee: $5 per student

Music Artistry Program (MAP)

The Music Artistry Program (MAP), formerly Piano Adjudications, provides an opportunity for students to prepare and perform two polished pieces and receive feedback from a qualified adjudicator.

  • MAP will be held February 21-23, 2020. This year’s Visiting Guest Artists include Dr. Jay Mauchley, Sandra Mauchley, Debra Bakland, and Dr. Jensina Oliver

Chapter Honors Competition (CHC)

The Chapter Honors Competition (CHC) provides an opportunity for advancing students to perform at the highest level, competing for an opportunity to represent SKCMTA at the WSMTA State Conference.

  • CHC will be held March 7, 2020 at Green River Community College in Auburn
  • Registration Deadline: January 14, 2020 at 9:30 am

  • There will be a lottery for playing order. The lottery will be held at the chapter meeting in January. CHC registration fees must be paid by the start of the meeting.
  • Students are limited to 8 minutes of playing.
  • CHC winners and honorable mentions are invited to perform at the Fine Arts Recital on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 3:00 pm at the Kent First Baptist Church.

Music Literacy Program (MLP)

The Music Literacy Program (MLP), formerly Musicianship Examinations, provides an opportunity for students to assess their knowledge of music theory through a proctored written exam.

  • MLP will be held May 2, 2020 at 9:00 am-3:00 pm at the Nativity Lutheran Church in Renton.
